Couch Mover/Apholstery

So, I found a new place to live :-)

Problem is that one of my couches had to be broken apart and put back together to get it in my apartment 10 years ago. I'll have to do that again to get it to the new place (unless I end up just tossing the damn thing).

Anybody go through this before and have the contact info of a company that can do this?

    SHOPPPINGGG!!!!!!

New place, new start, NEW COUCHES. (But Im a shopaholic).

I do know Jennifer Convertibles offers this when you purchase furniture there - maybe they hire independents that you can call.

Oh yeah - Congrats on the new place!!

I may just end up throwing it out......that said, the move is already costing me a fortune.

Still a Windsor Terrorist, or didja make the jump to another neighborhood?

And did you do the whole broker thing, or make a go of it directly yourself, via NYT, Craigslist or whatever?

    What ultimately worked?

yep, still a terrorist. ended up going thru broker, but got him to reduce fee significantly as this was a referral.

what worked was enlisting all of the people i know in the 'hood - neighbors, mailman, store owners, etc.

    Good for you! Congrats!

Good luck on the move. I'm still trying to replenish my savings account from my move.

We used Lionel to dismantle a couch we bought off craigslist. The phone numbers apartmenttherapy lists are 718.353.4183 or 718.813.5821, and I know at least one of them was correct when we used him in February.

He and his wife and his helper were nice, and very chatty. It took a lot longer than I thought it would, but it worked fine and the couch looks great. It cost us $300, but it's a nice couch and we got a good enough deal on it that it was worth it.

I think we got charged a "it's Saturday night and I can't measure properly and the couch is sitting in our building's stairway so please come soon" surcharge. It might not cost quite as much if you're able to plan ahead.
