You're supposed to ask how much it's going to be when you call. They'd never quote you that much over the phone.

Really, for someone in law enforcement to make a joke like this about a possible rape is beyond the pale.

I think you've taken your Moderating far too seriously. Someone has posted something which to this date is baseless. Law enforcement or not, I'm entilted to have a sense of humor, like many other members of this forum.Lately the whole tone of this board has really taken a turn for the worst. People can't even post freely without being ridiculed and PMed with threats to be banned or given "time outs". I understand there has to be some rules, but members should be able to debate, banter, agree disagree as long as noone is being overtly nasty. BTW I never claimed to be in Law Enforcement, that was a label that was given to me.

When I'm speaking as a moderator, I try to put "Mod note" in the post and make it clear that I'm wearing my mod pants for that particular post.
I wasn't speaking as a moderator here. I'm speaking as a woman and as a fellow user of the site. Did I in any way try to "moderate" you -- did I give you a time-out, PM you, or lock or delete this post? No, and it's very inaccurate and misleading for you to imply that I am in any way "moderating" you here. I simply stated my opinion on something you posted. Just because I'm one of the site administrators doesn't mean that I don't get to participate in the discussions here, King.

As for whether you're in law enforcement, you've certainly represented yourself as at least being connected to law enforcement when it's suited your purposes.

But whether you're in law enforcement or not, making a crack like this over a possible rape is something I -- as a human being with a vagina, not as a moderator, okay?! -- find very offensive.

I'm not sure what the proper protocol after being Raped is, but if the person was really Raped and was concerned about her community she might post some valuable information. Making random baseless statements is equivalent to "shit stirring". Probably the reason why the original post was locked by Mr. Daily Heights. As for having a "vagina", that shouldn't preclude you from having a sense of humor.

Unless you're privy to some information you haven't come forward with, you don't know whether those statements are baseless or not, do you? The original threads have now been locked, with an invitation to the original poster to PM a site admin or mod if he or she has further concrete details to share. It's certainly possible that it's a hoax, but it hasn't been PROVEN to be one. It's still possibly true.

And just because someone finds a joke about a possible rape offensive doesn't mean that person doesn't have a sense of humor. Period.

rape is kinda like the holocaust and memories of slavery/segregation: topics better left out of jokes.

Just FYI, in case anyone isn't clear on why I took offense to KWAC's joke here:

So did anyone get any all CAPS updates on the alledged Rape yet? I keep checking my mailbox, haven't seen or heard a thing yet.

I saw that after and I have to agree with King and the admin that locked that post...

If it were true, a description of the driver would be more helpful than a warning about the service.

So I'm taking that with a grain of salt to. Perhaps King's salty post was the perfect response. LOL

Gosh, you're right. The proportional and proper response to a posting about a rape that *might* not be true is to make jokes about rape. How silly of me not to have gotten that right off the bat.

Why the hell did we lock the original thread if that's all everyone wants to talk about?

I bet rapists are employed by car services throughout New York City.

Sorry to be sexixt, but how can any woman know that when she jumps into a cab that she will not be attacked by the driver? Come to think of it, how can the driver know that he or she will not be attacked by passengers?

raw you are right. there have been cases on the news recently girls getting raped by drivers of car services.
