looking for a personal trainer: ymca or nysc?

I'm looking for a good personal trainer at either one of these clubs. I belong to NYSC but have heard the trainers at their 9th Street location are not the best, so I'm willing to switch to the Y if necessary.

I'm not a workout fiend - I'm looking for someone to get me started with a healthy, efficient rountine. Anyone have a recommendation?

I have a trainer at the YMCA on 9th street. I am not that into excerising at all, and he make it very entertaining and worth my time. His name is Leon. There are like 5-6 trainer there all with different styles....

how much is the personla trainer charging at the Y? If it is not too much, then I may also join Y and use him/her

So not true about NYSC (although, like every place else there's always a few bad apples) - trainers that come to mind are Chris, Rachel, Izzie, and one person whose name always escapes me - begins with a "u" and has long dreads. However, you do have to be a member of NYSC to train there.

Leon's great - he trained me when I first got to the Y. I signed up for Stanley this past weekend, though. He just has this infectious personality and I need a boost.

NYSC has a great trainer named Hassan.

May be whom Peanuts was referring to. He has long dreads.

Great guy, got my core strength up, and started me doing circuit training to help me lose the extra pounds before moving me to lifting heavier weights.

He knows what he's doing and is a good motivator.

He teaches a boxing class on Sundays if you want to meet him.

Some of the staff at NYSC are terribly overweight. I have no idea how they got their jobs.

The Y is great - you can get 5 sessions for $135 I think? They were also doing this fall 12-week thing that got you a once a week consult from the staff.... might be worth asking about - you can go into member services (inside the door and to the left before the security door) and ask.

I started training with Stanley on Tuesday. He's awesome - a good listener and a great motivator. Lots of positive reinforcement and a great sense of humor, and the exercises were fantastic. I did them again last night and they were challenging but really good.
