Any really good, competent dentist in Brooklyn?

I am looking for a superb, experienced dentist in the Brooklyn area with all the lastest equipment ( technology). ( Preferably in private practice instead of a clinic setting.) My dental plan is Aetna.

Me and my family go to Dr. Rosenkranz in Park slope, check out the threads on him in the daily slope forum "dentist in the slope" we found him there and the neighborhood is crazy about him, oh and he takes all insurances.

Dr. Samantha Ifill is a great dentist and she accepts most insurance plans. Her office is at 213 Eastern Parkway near the Brooklyn Museum. She has pretty extensive office hours including evenings and Saturdays. Her number is 718-230-3183

You might want to check out someone's record of posting here before you take their advice...for instance, if they only come to the board to post about how much they love their dentist, it could just be a lame marketing thing by a dentist's office. :evil:

Well, I don't know anything about the shills, but based on advice from long standing members of this forum not posting in this thread, I started using Dr. Rosenkranz for my family. I did find that he had the latest gizmos, and found him very convenient, honest, and professional. Shilling aside, I would honestly recommend him to anyone asking. FWIW. And the kids actually enjoyed going there.

P.S. He ate no kittens any of the times we were there. Maybe that is only for special occasions.

"Available" is one thing- poster was looking for "superb." I find its always better to get a recommendation for a dentist/doctor rather than going to the dreaded insurance list. I mean, you end up basing your judgment on what- location? Gender? Ethnic persuasion? It's too random.

Just sayin- your post exudes a vibe that says, "leave the board alone, look it up yourself."

This board is for things just like this- neighbors reaching out to other neighbors and spreading the word about the good and the bad.

Well, personally, the list is the first place I would look, because it seems silly to go out of plan for a dentist. The list narrows it down and then you could come back to the board and say, "well my plan covers these dentists. Which would you recommend?" Dr. Rosenkranz might be wonderful, but if he isn't on your plan, you're going to have to go elsewhere.

And then of course, you could, umm... call these dental offices and ask them about the kind of equipment they have in their office.

I guess I don't get all that paranoid about which dentist I use. I've only had one bad dental experience. And the guy was obviously nuts from the get-go. I probably should have walked out when he tried to fight me on my not wanting silver/mercury almagam fillings in my mouth even though my plan covers white fillings. He ended up breaking my tooth filling it.

Every other dentist, especially the dentist who rebuilt my tooth, has been nothing less than superb.

I worked for dentists for 10 years (thank God I'm not doing that anymore!)- equipment doesn't mean anything and is not a good basis to judge whether a dentist is talented and reputable.

As for going to the list and weeding it down, I think its much easier to get names from people who know THEN go to the list and see if they're on there. Or call them and ask.

But that's just me. I was actually going to post for a good dentist myself but now all I have to do is call the ones on this list. Easy cheesy.

These days with managed care, dentists have to put themselves on TONS of plans in order to accommodate their patients and still make a little money. the days of hanging a sign out front and waiting for people to come are ova!

I go to Dr. Ifill and she accepts Aetna -- she's fantastic and flexible.

any other suggestions? dr. ifill doesn't take my plan which is hmo vs ppo. she has a nice office though.

Try Drs Gaus and Stanislaus on Montague Street. They treat my kids and spouse and are wonderful. Great bedside manner.

thanks homeowner, unfortunately i don't see them on my list. i guess i'll just have to put it on the dartboard and see where the dart lands.

I'm gonna second Daver's (non shill) thumbs-up for Dr. Rosenkrantz. I'm *terrified* of visiting the dentist and I had a really really good experience with him last weekend. He was really friendly and accomodating (as were his staff), and he explained every single thing he was doing, which made the whole visit actually kind of pleasant and interesting. Also: free floss!

When I was there, he collected the $100 deductible that I have for my insurance like he was supposed to. Months later, when the insurance finally paid him, they actually paid that $100 to him even though he had collected it from me. So he called me and sent me a $100 check, which I thought was cool. I never would have know the difference and he would have made an extra hundred bucks.

And I'm not just saying this because he gave me a hundred bucks. Well, I mean I _am_ saying it because he gave me a hundred bucks, otherwise I wouldn't have anything to post about, but I mean he didn't give me a hundred bucks to make this post.

Although I would entertain anyone endorsement offers. PM, please.
