Subject: how come some of my old maps from the 90's

say adelphi for prospect heights area and parts of crown heights and clinton hill?

    Maybe it's because "Adelphi" post office on Fulton serves those areas.

    My car service recognizes the nabe as Adelphi.

    if you type in adelphi brooklyn in google map. it also shows up in ph and clinton hill and crown heights area.

    maybe that no mans land from those areas is called adelphi. would make sense.

    Looks like once upon a time, there was an Adelphi Academy located at 412 Adelphi Street, which spawned Adelphi University. If Wikipedia is accurate, the Academy was established in 1863, the University in 1896, the two institutions split in 1925, and the University moved out to Garden City in 1929. Not clear when the Academy moved to Bay Ridge, its current home, though that's probably in the second link if you *really* want to know. Anyway, seems like that explains the name.
