Does anyone know what is happening on 12th st. now (10:15) lots of cops , yelling, etc.

Subject: Fight on 12th

It happened on the sidewalk right across from my house around 10:30. We heard the comotion outside and jumped up to see 2 or 3 young guys going after another guy -- chasing, punching and kicking. They knocked him to the ground and proceeded to kick the shit out of him until the cops arrived... really quickly I might add. Several people emerged from the crowded, hysterically crying. That, and that fact that so many cops and detectives showed up... and stuck around, that we just assumed someone was killed. It definitely involved some of the residents of the bigger apt buildings mid-block.

Finally, about midnight, a detective knocked on my door to ask me what i saw and he confirmed that the one person was stabbed to death. The gist of what I got is that the guy that got the crap beat out of him was the stabber -- the deceased's friends were administering the beating.

I've been looking in the papers... nothing so far. I guess we need to wait until the free weekly Park Slope paper's come out with their crime report.

Bottom line: really scary and reminded me that, despite the gentrification of Park Slope -- we still live in a big city and crazy stuff happens.
