Curbside Garbage Piling up.

Anybody notice the increased amount of garbage that buildings are piling up on the streets, days in advance of the next garbage removal?

I know in the city, you are only permitted to place garbage out on the street the night before it was to be removed. It seems like there are some buildings which put there garbage out three or four days in advance.

Not only is the piles of garbage stinky & unsightly, it also helps feed the increasing resident rat population.

There have been two days in the past week where trash service was suspended, last Tues - election day, and yesterday - veterans day. If trash was put out sunday for monday collection this week it won't get picked up until today and then sanitation is often backed up so it takes a while.

Recycling is even worse, it gets skipped for a week so you might see those bags out for a long time.

I didn't realize there ARE 3-4 days between garbage pick-up. As far as I know, this happens M-W-F.

So will the city issue tickets for the recycling stuff that will sit outside for a week?

Too bad our local traffic enforcment officers could not issue tickets for this.

    Depends on where you live:

    And here's the holiday schedule:

Call 311 and complain about the garbage piled up on the street. Sanitation will respond and issue an ECB summons. ECB is the Enviornmental Control Board. and the fines are rather steep.

A police officer can also issue an ECB but they rarely do considering they don't carry them on patrol and their bosses would rather they issue a criminal court summons (c summons). A criminal court summons looks better at compstat meetings. Similiar to the way the police issue c summonses to cabs and tow trucks instead of filing an LD6 which incurs much steeper penalties.

I think they prefer the rats on the curb than in the building.

...has anyone else been dumbfounded by the amount of trash the big art deco building on Park Pl. toward Vanderbilt produces? Every time I walk to the Q I am amazed at the huge huge piles sitting out on the curb. I know it's a big building - but my goodness!
