4 Kids Locked up last Night for Armed Robbery Vanderbilt ave - Dean st. These kids couldn't be older than 14 years old. Robbed 2 guys of their Laptop. 2 of the perpetrators got away, but a little note, these young kids have no fear. Their actions have little thought to the consequences. So a little reminder this Holiday season, please be vigilant and aware of your surroundings. Those little I Phones are very desirable. If you see a shady group of kids/adults hanging out up to no good, Please don't hesitate to call 911.

Per chance, was this the arrest that happened on the corner of Washington and St Marks? I saw some young'ns getting processed and I was hoping that it was related to some of the recent muggings.

those long dark streets make it so convenient for a mugging.
lighting up the streets would help.
is there a neighborhood association for this area?

There are block associations on some of the blocks...

This is the kinda shit that makes you wanna go all Batman vigilante - hiding in the shadows, waiting to knee-cap little jackasses that are preying on people...

Just noticed a NYPD crime warning in the GAP station this a.m. about recent street crime and muggings...hopefully last night's bust will put a cramp in the little sh*ts...

also, how did they get caught? by undercover police, or did victims call 911 and cop cars descended on them?

If I could stand most teenagers for more than half a second, I would be a big sister. Walking down 7th Ave after 3pm makes my skin crawl. :)

    Subject: Private Security Cams

One thing that could help without much cost is to put up street signs around the neighborhood, warning potential muggers, bike thieves, etc that the neighborhood watch has private security cams filming you from all angles of the 'hood.

The sign in and of itself would be a preventative measure...it won't always stop stuff from happening but could persuade some to think twice about whether that quiet street really means they are alone. Of course those streets would need to be at least somewhat lit for the camera's if they aren't just a shallow threat.

On buildings, signs like "when entering this property you are being taped for security purposes."

On the street signs like "Neighborhood cameras helping to stop crime. Smile for the camera." With a picture of a camera or even a dummy camera...

It does seem a little big brotherish but if it stops you from getting punched in the head, it might be worth it.

    Subject: Dummy cops

If the cops in the 77 want to get really creative they could dress up a dummy in a cop uniform and park it on high crime streets. This worked in LA for stopping people from running stop signs.

(please no lectures on how this isn't LA or street crime isn't running a stop sign, I get it)

Even an empty car might cause the kids/muggers to think twice before jumping someone if they think the cops are inside one of the buildings. Actually an empty car might be better in this case, because the dummy would give it away pretty quickly...not too hard to figure out.

Even if this idea sucks, getting creative and thinking of stuff like this could help and it isn't really that expensive or time consuming.

Well, you don't have to mentor a teenager - I'm a Big Sister to a 9 year old. And it's pretty amazing.

Yup those were kids who got arrested on St Marks and Washington ave. The 77 Anti-Crime Unit made the arrests after concentrating on that area for several weeks now. That however is just a small group of entrepeneurs who have been targeting the Pilgrims on the West end of the precinct lately. Hopefully more arrests to follow.

    The courts are the problem.
A little over two months ago I observed three punks beating the crap out of a black and they took off when the cops were called by someone in the street.
The 78th pct responsed along with some detectives .
I called the PCT and told them I have photos of the punks, the detectives met me and thanked me for helping.
A SGT. contacted me and advised ,thanks to the photos they caught the punks.
The leader of this group only did 31days and is back on the street .

After his release he was stopped and questioned by the cops every time he was on the avenue. Thanks to this follow- up activity he stopped hanging around.

The cops arrest them, the courts let them go.
