Help! I moved into an illegal sublet.

My boyfriend and I moved into an apartment sublet on December 1st .

Before we moved in, the primary tenant gave us a copy of the original lease as well as a sublease agreement, which the three of us signed. However, the landlord didn't sign the sublease. (I know, this was an oversight on my part.)

Assuming that the primary tenant lied to us about having permission to sublet from the landlord, what are our rights, if any?

I've heard something about a landlord not being able to immediately kick someone out of an apartment if they've been there for 30 days or so. Can anyone elaborate on this or point us in the direction of someone who would be able to help us?

Thank you.

Thanks, I posted on that site as well. It's a lot less active than this forum, though.

    Anybody else??

30 days is the Rule, if you can prove it. Once you live somewhere for 30 days you become a legal resident and must be legally evicted if you refuse to leave. The person who sublets the apt, assumes the position of the Landlord in respect to the subletee. Do you have specific question?
