    Sounds like a noble pursuit. Why don't you live on the streets for the next 30 days, panhandle on the subways and train stations, and report back on your success.

    i'm taking about professional beggars and charity cases. they are all over brooklyn and the us. not homeless at all.

    But the question is, how do you differentiate between the professional homeless and the truly needy? I'm not disputing this phenomenon at all, but not every homeless person has a BMW in the driveway. :roll:

    These stories are part of urban myth propagated in order to soothe the conscience of folks who are blind to the issues surrounding real homelessness - particularly in NYC.

    FYI, your typical car window wiper in Sydney is not destitute and homeless. It's a British backpacker who's overstayed a working holiday visa, and does this for a few hours before heading back down to Bondi Beach. There aren't many poor Australians who'd do this kind of work; the few who are able-bodied and unemployed are too busy jumping through hoops to meet the requirements for their next welfare check.
