Mumpus is acting strange

Ok, since I stopped taking the kittens to the bookstore about a month ago, Mumps has been acting weird. Every few days or so he gets withdrawn, won't play with Grumps or me, sleeps by himself, and basically acts nothing like himself. That was lasting about a day or so until last week. He's been acting like that for about 3 days now and he peed in my sock drawer! He was sleeping in there while I was getting ready and I don't remember him moving around much. Could this behavior all be from a UTI?

Mumps has always been very outgoing, playful, and affectionate. So this complate 180 has me freaking out a bit. He's still eating, drinking water, and peeing and pooping, which is the only reason I'm not freaking out a lot. They have to go back for their booster shots in a week so I'll be able to ask our vet then. Any ideas? He's my baby, last night he slept inside my sweatshirt kind of like he used to when he was little.

Any sort of behavior change should be cause for concern, even if peeing and pooping is fine.

My cat Nickel had the constitution of a horse. She almost NEVER got sick. Under normal circumstances, while she was affectionate with people she knew, she rarely cuddled up to strangers. But apparently that's what she did when she was not feeling well. She would get real needy and clingy with me (I'd literally have to pull her off me) and she'd crawl in the lap of the nearest person. This unusually affectionate behavior was so bizarre that I took her to the vet right away. It turned out she had an intestinal blockage, which was promptly treated.

It was the only way I had to tell when she was sick because no matter how sick she was, she would still eat. She ate when she developed a giant abscess and before surgery, the vets were saying it was cancer. (It was not.) She even ate on the day she died from kidney failure, which rather amazed the vet.

Or maybe... What do kittens do during adolescence? I mean, humans get all moody and weird. Do you think a kitten would too?
I'm just hoping that it's nothing serious. How is he today?

Yeah, but Mumpus is exhibiting old cat moody weirdness, not adolescent cat moody weirdness. Adolescent cats tend to be hyper and destructive, not withdrawn.

What's the update? I hope he's ok. Maybe he's just going through his teenage awkward phase?

These kittens are killing me. Apparently Mumps has an abcess in his mouth, right around his left canine. He must have caught it on something and the gum split. Fortunately, it's a baby tooth but we have to watch it to make sure it comes out okay and doesn't mess up his bottom teeth. That's what caused the fever and lethargy. Grumples got his booster shot, Mumps got Clavamox and Metacam. Mumps should be okay, I'll keep you all posted about his progress. Thanks for all your suggestions and good thoughts.

They will if we can break them of the habit of running out the door of the bookstore. That's the reason they're staying with me now, it's too crazy there during the holidays to keep a proper eye on them. If we can't break that habit then the bookstore can't adopt them. I know someone who would love to adopt them, a friend of the other woman I work for. He's an older guy who lives alone and he watched them for me last night before we went to the vet while I was at work. He fell in love with them and I would be able to visit them too. I would just need to get all their medical stuff cleared up since he doesn't have much money. Hey, if anyone needs a woodstripper, he's your man!

Aw poor mumpus! I'm sure the antibiotics will clear everything up. Add some acidophilus to his food so he doesn't get a leaky butt!

Hope the wood stripper can adopt 'em.

Guess who's playing? Mumps is feeling a heck of a lot better, almost back to his old self. He still hasn't lost that tooth though, I hope he doesn't swallow it because I want to save it! Thanks for the support guys!

Welcome back you! Mumps is back to his old devilish self and he finally lost that tooth. I didn't find it though, he probably swallowed it or something just to spite me.

Hopefully you'll get one of the other baby teeth. I only managed to get 1 tooth from my kitty for my scrapbook! I think she may have really eaten/swallowed the other ones.

The little devil is beating the crap out of his "little" brother on my bed right now. Grumps is enormous now, he weighs 8 oz more than Mumps!
