older dog needs home

This is a pass-along from a friend of mine, so I don't have any info on this myself - just call the woman listed below if you're interested...

It kind of makes me laugh that he's called "not the most handsome" though. I bet he's totally adorable.

***

Fred is a cattle dog mix, 11 years old, up to date on all shots.... loves other dogs, not sure about cats, he's never been around them... wouldn't be great around small kids - might be nervous.... he doesn't need any daily meds and is healthy... he is housebroken, loves to be home... super sweet dog, not the most handsome, but really a great dog......

His owner is a 70 year old man who fell & broke his hip & will not be returning home. He is moving into an assisted living home and can NOT take Fred with him.

Fred is scheduled be put to sleep on Jan 3rd if he does not find a home. Please forward this to ANYONE you know who would be willing to help.
They can call Mary Jo if interested 718-986-1362

Ugh. This just breaks my heart. If I had room for more I would definitely take him in.

I believe he found a temporary home, not sure about a permanent one. Lemme check.

Oy. Not the worst of endings, but not the best either. From my friend:

Apparently they found a good home for Fred but the owner is refusing to surrender custody over. He is going to have to eventually when they sell his house etc. Right now Fred is at the house alone all day while a neighbor checks in on him twice a day. It's a sad situation.
The owner is holding on to hope that he will recover quickly & be able to keep Fred, but at his age & situation, it is not really a possibility.

    *sigh*

    No good deed goes unpunished.

So wait... who was going to have the dog put to sleep? It doesn't sound like the owner was the one planning this...

If a home was found, perhaps that person will still take in the dog later on when the owner finally gives in to reality. So sad, though. I guess I'll go ahead and un-sticky this. :(

Dunno - again, I was spreading the word for a friend of a friend. I'd guess the person was a relative of the owner? Can't say for sure though.
