    Subject: Taking for granted "Modern" Roads

    I will quote an article from the Brooklyn Eagle on July 18, 1897 that seems to still hold true today....

    “The great amount of asphalt and vitrified brick pavement that is replacing the noisy and miserably laid cobblestones, and even granite block, is not appreciated by Brooklyn people…”

    “…roads the smoothest in the country and as noiseless as can be provided for by the very latest scientific pavement…”

    Reading the article from the viewpoint of a reader of 100+ years ago, it would have been very exciting.....
