i think new york and other northern and western states should secede.

god the guy is dumb as bush.

he thinks there are more illegal pakistanis in the country than any other group except from south of the border lol.

the guy thinks gays and lesbians are the same as pedophiles and necrophiliacs.

he doesn't believe in evolution.

he thinks school shootings are caused by abortion.

On the other hand, if he gets the nomination, that could be a good thing.

Well that last one sounds plausible.

No worries. Caucuses are a joke. I went to a Maine caucus once and...well, I wouldn't go back. It was not democracy as I know it, but rather resembled octopi mating. The only reason anyone pays attention to Iowa is that it is first.

    We're February 5th? Damn...

Damn. This is the first primary I ever gave a damn about, and apparently in New York, the deadline for registering for this primary election was October 11, 2007! New York has got to have some of the most restrictive voter registration laws in the country. Other states don't make it so difficult to switch party affiliation.

That said, thank goodness for the fact that the Democratic field of candidates is strong enough that a Huckabee presidency is unlikely.

No worries. The establishment elephants of the republican party will swiftboat his ark before it floats

Who would the establishment prefer? The field of candidates is REALLY weak and I don't think Giuliani appeals to the average middle American voter.

the establishment prefers anyone but huckabee. when he said that (paraphrase) people want a candidate who looks like their co-workers rather than the guy who laid them off, he strikes at the k street-wall street segment of the republican party.

the problem (thankfully) for the republicans is that they don't have a perfect candidate

    huckabee: too populist
    romney: mormon, political trickster
    giuliani: womanizer, pro-abortion
    mccain: immigration
    thompson: comatose

well, because of the populism, I suppose huckabee would be the front-runner, but because of his idiocy and the fact that he has no major backing (unlike Bush), the Democrats will be able to wipe the floor with him, especially if they pick someone as articulate as Obama.

Huckabee terrifies me. So many people discount his chances because of his ethical lapses, because he's a fundie who lets rapists and murderers out of prison to slaughter more women just because they've found Jeebus, because he's all folksy charm with jackdoodly to back it up -- um, can we please remember who's been in office for the last two terms? Hell, I never thought he could possibly get elected! We shouldn't underestimate the ability of the American public to ignore every red flag imaginable and just flat eat up someone like this guy.

I seriously considered changing party affiliations long enough to vote against Huckabee in the NY primary, but I don't think he's going to win this state.

Yeah, but Huckabee doesn't have a Karl Rove in his corner. He also doesn't have daddy's powerful and influential friends like Bush Jr. had.

Election shenanigans were part of the reason Bush got into office in the first place.
