An entity named "Citrico" has applied for an initial kitchen inspection at 681 Washington Avenue, the former location of Raw Star.
Based on the name, my money is on a juice bar.

Actually I met the owners a few weeks ago. This will be a Mexican restaurant. They told me they will make their own tortillas. (As a ex-Texan and ex-Californian this is of utmost importance to good Mexican food).

The number of Mexican places already open and in the works between Vanderbilt and Nostrand, now officially hurts my head.

    I've counted them here: http://www.brooklynian.com/discussion/43891/purity-diner-to-become-burrito-bar#Item_14

It's open now, apparenly as of last week. I saw them making their own tortillas out of li'l balls of masa. I ordered a vegetarian torta which was delicious. It has a nice, classy interior (more , and reasonable prices. They don't offer burritos, so they won't be a direct competitor with Taqueria de los Muertos, at least for me. Yummy Taco might want to look out.

Our neighborhood is indeed blessed with many delicious Mexican restaurants— probably among the best Mexican options in Brooklyn, outside of Sunset Park.

Here is a blurry menu photo:

Photo from inside. They have table service. They were serving brunch, but I decided to just have a big taco, with lots of stuff in it.

    It was yummy.

I still haven't been, but my friend who did (and sent me these photos) said it was extremely fresh and delicious and the staff was charming.

The proprietors appeared before the CB8 subcommittee on May 5, and received its support.

Tonight, they appear before the larger CB8 board, and it is expected to support the application as well.

This place has a total of 24 interior seats.   The lic requested is just for beer and wine.

They describe their food as being "southern Mexican".
