Actually, it seems we are no longer going to get Greek food. Now we are getting a deli and grill.

I got a chance to look in on this space this weekend, but didn't get a photo.

The refrigerated display cases are in place, and it looks like we might get the "big sandwich and a non-organic price" place that I have craved for a while.

I damn near cried when I saw it was going to be yet another deli I won't go to.

Doesn't the deli right up the street on Franklin and Prospect offer big sandwiches? They're not serving organic food, why would they be charging such prices? This sounds like more of the same, but I'll reserve judgment until it's open.

I am hoping there will be some seating. Perhaps stools.

Dah. Organic. This makes big, cheap and tasty less likely

Gourmet *and* organic. Perhaps you can buy a buzzword sandwich? Spoiler: It's Boar's Head. 

Having "organic" on a sign I don't think necessarily puts it in the category of pricey delis. I bet in 10 years every corner bodega will say "organic" or something on the sign. However, I agree that big and cheap are not likely to be words to describe the stuff in this store. It seems that all the corner bodegas are being replaced with the mid-price stores like the one on Park and Franklin by Silver Rice, and the place on Bedford (and Prospect?). As long as there are at least a few classic bodegas around to get a cheap sandwich on a roll, I'll be happy. Otherwise, I welcome the expanded beer and ice cream selections at these other places.

It's like they studied the signage and aesthetics if every hipster establishment on franklin ave and decided to do he exact opposite.

Pro:   It lacks Edison light bulbs and repurposed wood.

Pro:   It has a variety of colors.

Seems to be just another cold-cut bodega dressed up with some fancier trimmings.  Sure you can get 7-buck choc chip cookies and some fancy dried goods, but at their core they're waiting to make you a turkey & cheese hero from behind the counter.  No fresh veggies, it's like the Pine Tree up the street but not as well done.

This place and the place on the south west corner are a disaster.  

The grand opening celebratory flags that extend across the road were a little lower than one might expect.  I saw a moving truck brush the flags but didn't quite get the line holding them. 

Any word on the beer selection?

Surely, they have the ubiquitous poster of craft beers.

I forgot to look to see whether they have stools or tables inside.

Do they?

No beer at all and no stools or tables.  But it seems like a decent place to run in for something other than beer.

Seriously though, what is the deal with the place on the southwest corner? They haven't put up a real sign and their shelves are mostly still bare. 

The place on the SW corner - I'm pretty sure I heard an employee talking to a customer outside the store about how the manager is going to close the store; he can't figure out what the customers want. The employee may have been speaking out of his depth, but that's what it sounded like.

Within that thread may be a partial explantion for why it is seemingly a mess and not experiencing success.

And, boom, as @chekhovian overheard: The bodega at 718 Franklin is now for lease.

This newly remodelled place was likely a big part its demise.

The newish deli at 710 Franklin is a great addition to the neighborhood. The guys there are friendly, the sandwiches are good and they have some decent staples, keeping with the trend of bodega-like spaces offering higher-end items.
