Our cat pwned Hope!

I brought our cat to Hope vet clinic yesterday based on a recommendation from a thread on this board. They were great - the cat wasn't. My gf had warned me that the sweet little kitty I know turns into a beast at the vet. It was unbelieveable.

Hissing, spitting, expelling bodily fluids etc. like you've never seen before. It was crazy. They were running around trying to catch him in the little exam room like the people in the first Alien movie going after the baby alien. He also managed to scratch one woman through the protective glove she had. They explained that they don't use leather gloves any more in order to be more animal friendly, but the oven-mitt looking things were not cutting it.

Finally they asked me to bring him back today so they could sedate him and do it that way. That did it, but apparently he wasn't too pleasant after waking up. All I can say is Hope seems to be a great place - nice, clean, and they put up with the kitty from the Exorcist. Thanks, guys.

Thanks for giving props to the unsung heroes in the veterinary field, BigGuy! Those of us in the profession often look and feel like the walking wounded after working with some of our patients, but often the clients don't have as kind and understanding a perspective as you. It can be a thankless job, so THANK YOU for making my day!

BTW, I don't work at Hope but I'm glad you have found a place you're pleased with...

Our kitty allowed someone to not only feel like the walking wounded, but to actually be one. I imagine the job can be messy and tiring, as well as occasionally painful.

One thing I noticed is that they have a social worker on staff; they told me it was for owner counseling for "when sad things happen to animals". Is this common in the profession?

I don't think so. Hope also is one of the only (if not the only, I don't know) veterinary clinics that acts as a hospice for dying animals, and they have a rooftop garden where people can spend time with their animals that are too sick to come home. Pretty amazing.

and well worth the car fare. they're awesome. i especially appreciate the balance of thorough care and not pushing expensive extras.

oh, except i have almost always had bad luck with the receptionists. so if they're grumpy or weird on the phone, don't worry: the vets and vet techs have all been fantastic.
