I've walked by that new place a few times over the past two months (or so), since the new awning went up. It has never, ever been open.

My fear is that this establishment is operated by Island Cz.

It is adjacent (literally on the corner of Franklin and Sterling), took literally years to open, and only now appears to finally be doing ok.

Who doesn't love the smell of hot oily beef patties while trying to have a cold sweet ice cream?

    Pass.

Maybe they will invent ice cream patties? Like, delicious fried ice cream? YUM!

It apparently already is a thing. :)

If this shop were to promote the living daylights out of it, it can be like the new cronut.

I'd imagine if youre looking for the next fried-anything idea, state fairs are a good place to start.
    I'm sure there's a state-fair foods list somewhere.

This place seems in no rush to open.

Maybe they are waiting until Spring?

If I were them, I would sell hot chocolate and several varieties of chili until then. Maybe some chicken soup?

I actually saw someone lift the security gate to Sweets and Trests today. They visited for about 10 minutes and then left quickly, on a bike.

Sweets N Treats was open last night! I was picking my kid up from preschool when I walked by, so I did not have a chance to stop in. But I will definitely check it out soon!

Part of the delay was likely due to DOH not being happy during their intial inspection. It appears when DOH first came on 11/3/2014, they found some things that needed to be fixed: http://www.nychealthratings.com/nycrestapp/restaurantlanding/3/Crown Heights/41527

After the owners fixed them, DOH had to come back and inspect again before they were allowed to open. The second time seems to have been successful.

And we will now have ice cream locally as the weather warms up :)

Great news. We've been needing a Franklin Avenue ice cream place for kids since YoguMoo closed.

Friendly reminder- There's also delicious ice cream and treats at The Local on Classon Ave between EP & Lincoln Pl.

The Local makes their ice cream on site.

...whereas Sweets and Treats looks like they are going to stock a big brand like Breyers.

I look forward to a first hand report.
