Former site of NIMBA: http://www.brooklynian.com/discussion/39242/is-nimba-cafe-closed#Item_15

The proprieters are unrelated to the prior ones. I'm hearing that the signs went up today, but don't have a photo yet.

Likewise, I haven't seen a request for a kitchen inspection yet.

Anyone know anything about this place?

"When we stopped by the old Nimba space at 619 St. Johns Place in Crown Heights, the owners of the new Forte Cafe told us they plan to open by October 1. They’ll serve coffee, tea, made-to-order salads, sandwiches, pastries, and bagels and lox. They plan to do most of their baking on site. The interiors look pretty much the same as when Nimba occupied the space, except for a fresh paint job on the bar and new art on the walls."

---> I do not envy the amount of work they will need to do in order to survive in our highly competitive cafe environment.

Seriously. They should have opened on Nostrand.

I also stopped by and met the owner a few days ago. I think it looks good inside and the owner seems really nice. I think loyal customers will support small cafe owners in the area.I get annoyed that places like Starbucks often don't find neighborhoods like ours worthy of their business for years, then suddenly show up to profit. These cafes that have been here all along helped me get through college. I'll continue supporting them.

I walked by today and was told they are opening on Tuesday, they were doing some baking and it smelled amazing, they were also offering free mini muffins.  I hope they do well, we need a good place for lunch and dessert in the neighborhood

Went here for the first time today since my normal spot, Lazy Ibis, is closed for renovations.

I was very impressed. Clean, comfortable, cool style, very good coffee and food. And the service was very friendly. They even brought out free blueberry pie at one point.

Has anyone been here since it opened? Is it any good? There is a funny Yelp war going on between a disgruntled customer and the owner, who the customer accuses of writing fake Yelp reviews.
