Where there's smoke...

So around 8:30 this morning I smelled smoke (I'm by Park Pl & Underhill) through my backyard. I've been hearing fire trucks scream in and out for over an hour. Who has the scoop?

There was huge fire on St Johns and Washington. I saw a body being taken to an ambulance in a shroud as I was going to my car. I expect it'll be on the news later.

Unreal. My condolences to to the family of the victim. What is this now, the second or third time a fire has happened on that block? Is it the same building?

NYC Fire Wire (a facebook and twitter feed) is stating: Fire is/was in 781 Washington Avenue. It went to second alarm.

Side note: The building presently has scaffolding around it, as a result of construction work involved in converting it from a building that takes Section 8 to one that is market rent.
