Major Fundraiser December 13, 2014 at the Bedford Avenue Armory

The email below went out from the 71st today - anyone know what this is about?  Who on earth is attending the fundraiser to cause all this?

There will be a very large fund raiser being held on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at the Bedford Avenue Armory. Due to terrorism concerns several blocks will have no parking allowed from 7AM to midnight. There will be a large influx of Officers in the area and some anti terrorism check points. The following blocks will have no parking:

Rogers Avenue from Eastern Parkway to Empire Boulevard

Union Street from Bedford Avenue to Rogers Avenue

President Street from Bedford Avenue to Rogers Avenue

Bedford Avenue from Eastern Parkway to Carroll Street.

If you live on one of the following blocks that will be closed to traffic proper ID will be necessary to access your block with a vehicle. Pedestrian traffic will be allowed at all times.

Eastern Parkway from Eastern Parkway to Empire Boulevard

Union Street from Eastern Parkway to Empire Boulevard

President Street from Eastern Parkway to Empire Boulevard

Carroll Street from Eastern Parkway to Empire Boulevard

Crown Street from Eastern Parkway to Empire Boulevard

Montgomery Street from Eastern Parkway to Empire Boulevard

Sullivan Place from Eastern Parkway to Empire Boulevard

Members of the orthodox community have previously held large fund raisers in the space, and I suspect this is one of them.

...lots of security is often present.

Based on the time of year, it might be the same event.

Ahhhhhh - I remember this - on a Saturday in December a few years back around 8pm I saw literally thousands of Hasidic Jewish boys and men EVERYWHERE (I live on Montgomery btw Nostrand & Rogers).  Being from Texas it was a completely unique experience fro me.  his has to be what it was.  You learn something new every day. 

Am I the only one perplexed by this:

These streets all run parallel to each other.

It is a long winded way of saying "expect getting around the area to be a pain on December 13th"

A local activist and attorney (F. Richard Hurley) feels his constituents should have been asked whether the Armory should have been approved for this purpose:

I wonder if he knows it isn't the first time the fundraiser has occurred.

Is it his position that NYC should prohibit events that require security and require inconvenience?
