The M1-1 district allows hotels. Should 974 Dean become one?

They are pitching this building as being able to feature 20 rooms. They'd like $8.5M.

974 Dean is on the same block as 1000 Dean. It is in the M1-1 district.

I'd support any project that is going to help speed along development on that and surrounding blocks. Honestly, the blocks of Pacific and Dean (others fit the bill, too, but these blocks are the most extreme in my view) between Grand and Classon, sometimes extending to Franklin, look like complete disasters as they currently exist! Also, it's not a bad location, as far as neighborhood amenities and safety and public transportation options go, for a hotel.

These blocks are going to evolve pretty rapidly. I think we will see a view midsize hotels, but am also interested in seeing how entities like Global Square evolve.

The time to make this building a hotel may be now; the city may make it more difficult to put a hotel in M1 zones.

Reading the concrete sign built into the building at the top it appears to have been some kind of chocolate company when it was first built. Wonder if it was made or just distributed out of there.
