As a member of a crew that regularly collects food thrown out by local green grocers, I can appreciate how much food is wasted every night. 10-15 bags is normal just for a small green grocer. Forget about Whole Foods or Fairway. Now the French have had enough. How long before our own City Council wakes up? Approximately 30% of our post consumer resource stream is food and 95% ends up in a landfill or incinerator, where it sits for decades and generates methane, a potent greenhouse gas. Instead it could be converted to compost or biosolids, or fed to chickens. I feed 20 chickens at Imani Garden two big bags of greens twice a week, all from the dumpster. They love it!

Here's a link to an article about the new French law.
