What happened on St Johns & Nostrand?

When I went out this morning the block between Nostrand and Rogers was shut down to traffic by police. Looked like there was a couple of smashed up cars on the block. Any idea what went down last night/this morning?

There was a fatal car crash around 4 AM.

"A 20-year-old driver is hospitalized and his young female passenger is dead after a chaotic crash in Crown Heights early Tuesday, police said.

It happened shortly before 4 a.m. near 822 St. Johns Place.

The driver appeared to hit several parked cars before coming to rest, according to footage from the scene. The victims’ white sedan slammed head first into a parked car

Officers arrived at the scene to find a 20-year-old woman, who was traveling in the passenger seat, unconscious and unresponsive in the street, police said. She had been ejected from the car’s rear window, and taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said."

The DN story states she was thrown from the REAR window, and includes this photo of the car's destroyed rear end:



...which makes me think that the car spun, and impacted something while headed in the wrong direction.

A combination of rain, speed, youth, no seat belt and intoxicants?

It's interesting to me that whenever there is a story about a cyclist being killed the article almost always makes a comment about whether the cyclist was wearing a helmet (e.g. NYPost article on the cyclist killed by a driver in Harlem last week: http://nypost.com/2015/05/28/cyclist-killed-by-wrong-way-hit-and-run-driver/)... yet with these car occupant fatalities they never note whether the victims were wearing helmets. Go figure.

Either way, cars and guns, cars and guns... such endless joy they bring to Crown Heights.
