While they managed to re-open following January's fatal fire that started in Flatbush Hardware next door, Haifa Food Market closes for good this weekend.

Wow. That place has been there for as long as I can remember. I wonder whether this place just couldn't recover fully from the fire or whether there was another underlying cause.

I doubt they were selling enough vegetables and groceries to pay the $10k a month the landlord now seeks.

    Space Available:1,260 SF
    Rental Rate:$10,000 /Month
    Space Type: Street Retail
    Lease Type: Other

Frankly, I don't know that anyone can sell that many fruits and vegetables in that location......

I think the family owns the 2 buildings. The father passed last year and the brother perished in the fire after jumping from back balcony. I am sure Ahmed the last remaining sibling wants to cash in on the high Barclays rental market. A restaurant would b a good fit there, maybe a good Indian.

that is a little obscene, for the rental to be that high..

The restaurant would have to be very high profit, like a big corporate chain.

After 45 years, and two recent deaths, I wonder if the family is retiring.

I also wonder if they need the additional rental income from the Haifa space to make repairs of the burned out building happen.
