Last night, the park featured a movie and events for kids as part of local anti crime efforts.

If people not involved in crime become afraid to use the park, crime will increase.

I noticed a lot of shootings of late are leg shots.

I wonder if there's something about sending a message, or avoiding a worse charge if caught (i.e. a lesser charge than attempted murder that could be plea-bargained).

Could also be that they are bad shots, I guess.

Anyway, it's unfortunate, and even sadder that this happens in kids' parks.

Definitely agree there. If everyone else cedes the park to the criminals, then we are in for a real mess.

I was riding my bike about 100 feet away when I heard the shots. I saw about 20 boys/men running away from the park and towards me. I thought it was firecrackers until I heard someone say that he was shot. Definitely scary.

Many people have been congregating there later at night all the time, often openly drinking and gambling. Not a cop to be seen until the gunshots ring out.

The movie in the park was August 4, one night earlier. It's funny, one night at 9:30 there were tons of families and a movie screen. The next there was questionable activity and gun shots. I guess that's the contrast of the area at this time.

If everyone that used the park abided by a schedule, we could publish it and act accordingly.

    The schedule would tell:
    - the NYPD when people were going to shoot each other

    - SOS Crown Heights workers when people who carry guns were susceptible to offers of job training

    - dog walkers when they could walk their dogs and not annoy others.

    - families the best time to have a safe, pleasant BBQ with their kids

    - politicians when people who vote were likely to be present.

    - the best time to buy icees.

I just saw two cops riding horses in Brower Park. 9:40 pm. Not sure if they are only patrolling the park or other parts of the neighborhood.
