Kingston Lounge - Commercial Space on Kingston (St Marks/Bergen/Dean/Pacific) - What's Up?

A neighbor mentioned yesterday that there are plans to redevelop the Kingston Lounge, but had no details. Is this the case? Does anyone know anything about the plan? I have noted a number of hipsters and transplanted families that have moved to the area over the past two years and there is nothing in the area that caters to this crowd. No coffee shops, no bars....

I saw postings about a place on Fulton, and I have been there -- but that place is to far to become a neighborhood joint. Crossing Atlantic over to BedSty requires some effort - and not I'm not always up for it. And the service there is pretty slow -- especially once they start making juices... 

It would be nice to have some place to go on Kingston within a 2-5 min walk, rather than to hop a bike over to Nostrand or Franklin for coffee, or a nice bar/scene in the evening.

And there are SO MANY closed storefronts on Kingston. What's going on? Are owners not interested in renting their commercial space?

Also, any idea what's going on with the rest of that stretch of Kingston Ave. Everything is shut. Do owners of commercial storefronts not want to rent? Is there no interest? What's going on over there?

You'd have to ask each landlord why they are not renting their particular storefront, but it is very common for landlords to leave storefronts vacant while they await what they consider to be really good, high paying commercial tenants.

This phenomena, known as "warehousing" by urban planner geeks, has the unfortunate side effect fo making an area look like it is in decline, when -in fact- the landlords are betting that the opposite of decline will occur.
