What the hell is going on?

There's been a helicopter hovering over Prospect Pl and Nostrand for 15 minutes. Son just came in and said Prospect is blocked off and there are police all over the street. Anyone?

    "Cops have the building across from us on New York Ave surrounded. Not sure what's going on."

    "Two massive NYPD tank-like trucks just pulled up. New York Ave is blocked all the way down."

    "there's a red car in the middle of the street, abandoned. Looks like someone bailed out."

    "There were two ambulances, but it looks like most of the action has headed down St Marks. New York Ave is pretty quiet now."

    Whatever is going on seems to be centered on St. Marks Ave, near Nostrand.     Prospect Place is also reportedly blocked off.  

    This seems to be an NYPD event, as opposed to a FDNY one.    The present theory is that this excitement relates to a suspect who fled from the above red car.

    Theory 2 is that this is a planned raid of some sort, which is helped by the quick appearance of NYPD heavy equipment (believed to be armored vehicles).

    Cops were telling people on Prospect that there was a guy with a firearm hiding in the backyards between Prospect and St. Marks. Cops are gone now.
