The Doric

I noticed on the Sterling/Classon post that there are a bunch of us living near the shuttle. I live in 594 (much different from the gentrified 600 next door).
2 weekends ago the contractors at 600 were throwing cement and bricks off the roof, it ripped through the cable and broke the connection for the entire building. It took a while for us to figure out what happened and Cablevision was eventually able to repair the problem while strattling over 3 feet of broken concrete and charged masonary nails. Well, we called 311 to file a complaint and to try to get in touch with the landlord over the work habits of the contractor, and abuse of parking. Suprisingly 2 detectives showed up less than 2 hours later on a Sunday afternoon to follow up. It seems as though the building is owned by the city, which means that they can be fined, but their fines are reduced. And, we all know where that money comes from anyway. But, the contractor can still be fined. I believe that it is tracked for low-income housing for the elderly. Anyway they said that they can work from 7-6 I think. If they start earlier, call 311 and the contractor will be fined. Also, if parking is an issue for anyone else we can contact the DOT.

Also, does anyone know whats going in at the corner of Flatbush and Prospect?

Do you mean the large building that's going up where Brooklyn Tabernacle used to be?

That's some sort of Mexican restaurant. Supposedly. It's been listed in one of the past threads, so just do a little digging.

It used to be a lighting shop called City Lighting. Then it was an unimpressive bar/restaurant called City Lighting. Then that closed:

Then this big discussion ensued, and somewhere along the way it came out that the new restaurant is going to be Mexican and is supposed to open in early August:

594 is the one that's party central on the steps 24/7, no? (a.k.a. the one that caused me to use my white-noise machine so much that it wore out?)

That's definitely annoying about the Cablevision, though. I will make note of the time next time I'm awakened by crashing metal-on-metal noises...I'm positive it's been before 7:00 at least a few times. (At the same time, I AM happy they're finally doing something with that space. It was a bit of an eyesore on an otherwise fairly nice-looking block.)
