Tonight I saw a sign had been erected at 595 Washington about Norton Records.

Might be this company:

Nice! Some of the Sandy recovery work was done in PH at what I assume was their home - I volunteered along with some music-loving friends. They were very nice (and their records were very water-logged). I am glad the business is still kicking.

I am out of town at the moment, but someone could add a new shot of the storefront....

(I am trying to make some you more active in 2016)

Here's a shot taken this morning. A peek through the grates showed that shelves have been installed, and there are records on the said shelves.

This storefront has been empty for a while, right? There was a short-lived pop-up Thai place that was occasionally dishing out noodles about a year ago, but they were working w/o a kitchen:
Was there a juice bar in there before that?

I think this place has a greater chance of surviving for over a year than the unlicensed-no-kitchen Thai place had.

The raw materials (used records) have to be dirt cheap....

Norton Records is not a used record store. Norton puts out new, original records by some contemporary artists like KIng Khan, Miriam and Daddy Long Legs, and reissues of legendary, often cult artists like Kim Fowley, Hasil Adkins, or the Sonics. Norton owners' Billy and Miriam live in the neighborhood and are both great. Very excited about this new store.

    That makes sense.

...and shows my knowledge of new, original music (zero)

I walk by on a daily basis but have yet to step inside. I don't own a record player, but I'm more likely to stop in after seeing their flyers around the neighborhood, which advertise that they carry more than just vinyl
