I trust Nok's (on St. Marks between Underhill and Washington) 100%. They service almost all the cars on my block and are extremely reasonable.

I trust them, and like Rohan (?) the head mechanic, but they did miss a major brake problem with my car. There was a hissing noise which they said was nothing, but turned out to be a faulty brake booster cylinder.

I go there for tune ups and inspections, but go to the dealer for anything major.

Ah, good info. Thanks. Hey, you go to the dealer to get your car fixed? Wow, you must either be rich, or your car's still under warranty. :D

Nah, it's just that Volvo makes their brake systems so difficult to work on that only the dealer can do anything to them. My car is just out of warranty and I plan on making a huge fuss till they give me some kind of break. Worked with my Saturn.

Still haven't found a local mechanic for other than brakes. I've heard good things about Lorenzutti (?) between 3rd and 4th. But maybe it's just that he's cute.

Yeah, my mom has a Volvo and there are only a couple places that she can take it, as well. Lorenzutti? Maybe I'll just have to take it to my mech upstate.

we had a good experience at Atlas, and he seems to know Volvos. Atlas moved further down the road since this thread was posted
    http://brooklynian.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1769&highlight=volvo+mechanic

A couple people (with Volvos, not on this board) also recommended
    Mitchells Auto Repair
    1018 39th St ,
    Brooklyn, NY 11219
    (718)854-8074
but he was on vacation when we needed work

Could you post back if you find a Volvo brake guy you like?

Atlas was great, and it was the brothers who worked there that made me go back every time. Now their business was absorbed by the new on on Atlantic Ave., and they are both going to retire. Sux!

What about those guys on Bergen between Underhill and Washington? They always seem to have a steady flow of nicer vehicles, although they do appear to be more of a body shop than anything else.

Goto the dood at the corner of Sterling and Washington, behind the church on the corner. I think the guy's name is Irving, if I remember correctly. They take a while but he was really honest and fixed some things free of charge
