It seems to just list the places.    Can't think of many they skipped.

    ...they weren't real selective.

And the writing: oof. Nothing like a backhanded compliment.

Barboncino is this neighborhood’s top pizza place, and it’s great for what it is. Sure, it isn’t the best pizza in Brooklyn, but trying to have the best pizza in Brooklyn is like trying to be the highest person at a Dave Matthews concert.

While it does appear to be a somewhat scattershot list, Bar Corvo is a surprising omission. Maybe because Bar Corvo is currently closed for renovations and will be reopening under the new name Crownside? https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/02/09/travel/what-to-do-36-hours-in-brooklyn-new-york.html?_r=0

When they call $5 single tacos "not expensive," and $18 small sushi plates "affordable," and Mayfield's "pretty affordable" I'm reminded why long time residents hate gentrification so much. But I'm glad they only featured places gentrified crown heights (north of Eastern, West of Nostrand) and didn't blow up my local favorites.
