Anyone know what happened this morning on Franklin and Lincoln? Police tape across the road blocking access to Franklin and evidence number markers all over the road.

indeed. That video is pretty clear. The deceased seems to have lived locally: "Ali said the victim was a regular customer at his store as well and had bought a juice there about four hours before the shooting. “He’s in here a lot,” he said. “He was a nice guy. He always treated me well.”

Police kept a watchful eye on a large gathering on the bridge over the shuttle tracks on Sterling last night, presumably a vigil for the shooting victim who has now been identified as one Donovan Frazier: http://www.ibtimes.com/watch-final-moments-alleged-gang-member-fatally-shot-outside-brooklyn-bodega-2590706 This morning, candles remain at the site.

The deceased Donovan Frazier and this Donovan Frazier are reportedly one and the same: "On March 10, 2016 Lincoln Family member Ivan Fuentes, accompanied by Lincoln Family members Jhalanie Jones, Ray Hernandez, Scott Hunter and Donovan Frazier, fired multiple shots at rival gang members at Franklin Avenue and President Street as school was letting out at Clara Barton High School and the International High School at Prospect Heights, striking and injuring a Bergen Family member and an innocent 13-year-old girl." http://www.brooklynda.org/2016/08/03/twenty-five-alleged-gang-members-variously-charged-with-murder-and-shootings-in-connection-with-crown-heights-turf-war/

This was short lived: "Donovan Frazier, dob: 4-16-97, Sterling Place, Brooklyn. Arraigned and remanded."

This video of the suspects makes me think the NYPD will make arrests soon. https://patch.com/new-york/brooklyn/s/g8ext/police-release-video-suspects-weekend-crown-heights-shooting

It sounds as if it was taken before the shooting, within a block of the bodega: "In the video taken outside the deli, one man wearing all black with white sneakers is seen riding a bicycle in the street while two others — one wearing a blue jacket and the other wearing dark hoodie and black pants — walk toward the store on the sidewalk." https://www.dnainfo.com/new-york/20170918/crown-heights/fatal-shooting-franklin-avenue-deli-crown-heights

It's great that there are private cameras that can be used by law enforcement in this way when it is warranted, but not abused otherwise. I have multiple sidewalk-facing cameras on my property for exactly this reason.

Maybe it's time for some more of those incredibly effective protests AFTER a shooting

How can they waste time rallying about this when SummerHill is still alive!?!? /s

I think it is fair to state that not everyone is at the same risk of being murdered, even if they happen to be out on Franklin Avenue at 4:20 AM on a Saturday morning. ...such facts are why SOS Brooklyn works intensely with the subsets of the neighborhood that it does.

Isnt it more positive to protest gang bangers killing each other, than trying to take jobs away from local people of color?

I don't really think of the shooting responses as "protests". If I had to define them, I think I would say that they are a way of trying to tell a specific subset of the neighborhood that their life has value, and (if they think it does not) that killing someone and engaging violence isn't going to improve their fate. a
