I wonder if Trump's claims of bipartisan support for the commutation are true or, like so much of what he says, something that just popped into his head before he opened his mouth? In any case, the original sentence DOE'S seem rather harsh, on the face of it.

True, but any claim from Trump, about anything, is especially suspect.
