nice, affordable brunch places? (not dizzy's!)

Subject: nice, affordable brunch places? (not dizzy's!)

can anyone recommend any nice places for brunch? nothing fancy like 12th street or any place with a prix-fixe menu, more like a lovely late breakfast that isn't a diner. not loud, either.

ideas?

i've enjoyed brunch at Miriam on 5th avenue. the Israeli breakfast is really tasty!

I second Miriam's Israeli breakfast.

what's an Israeli breakast?

i've been meaning to try miriam; all the ceramic tiles inside the restaurant were hand-made by the owner's wife. (she used to have a space in my old studio. the amount of tiles were inordinate!)

any other ideas? anything further south?

Colson at 9th St and 6th Ave has great almond croissants, good coffee and makes a great brakfat place. No kids.

Dizzy is not inexpensive, by the way.

Actually, although the regular menu isn't that awe inspiring, the Cali Taqueria on 7th Ave between Lincoln and Berkely isn't bad at all.

as for dizzy's, it's not expensive but it's crowded.

I reluctantly went to Aunt Suzie's for all you can eat brunch buffet on Sunday and it was really yummy! (reluctantly b/c I didn't know what to expect). With the coupons that are around it's $10/person. In addition to eggs, waffles, crepes, and the best french toast, they also had tortellini, sausage & peppers, some other pasta, salad, chicken, green beans, dessert. You get a glass of wine, mimosa, or champaigne with that too.
