check out forest city's website:

http://www.forestcity.net/properties/atlantic-center.asp

they list Macy's as a tenant of the Atlantic Center (this is what I get for trying to figure out if it was an Office Max or Office Depot in the AC)

There used to be one, but it closed in 2002 or so, I think...

There was a Macy's in the Center until about 2002 or 2003. It was always empty and didn't have much in the way of stock. The Empire State Development Corporation moved into that space.

Macy's shut when their owner (Federated?) bought A&S (a very sad day) and converted A&S's to Macy's. They didn't want two Macy's so close together so they shut the one at the Atlantic Mall. When AM opened they had better chains but they seem to have slipped over the years. We still miss A&S. The Brooklyn store was their flagship store and it was much nicer than its present incarnation.

There was also a Sports Authority in AC in the beginning...it was big, big, big. I went in to buy something once after work and didn't see a single other customer, but two different guys asked me for change. It didn't last long.
