Know of any good Karaoke bars in BKLN?

we're throwing a surprise party for my best friend next week, and we're looking for a good Karaoke bar. Private room karaoke in Manhattan is a little pricey ($50/hr), and we're trying to keep it local, especially because we are coming from dinner in fort greene

So, live band/bar/private karaoke is good too.

How did I forget to mention Carriage house -- 7thAve and 8th Street, or just look for the 11 foot tale blow up football player on Sunday.

    Karaoke Saturday night... cheap drinks.

The Crowd: Holy shit... I'm usually in there about 2am drunk as a skunk and suprisingly the most sober person there. If that's not awesome enough there is also karaoke, two pool table, the baretenders smoke while serving you drinks...

The place is a must see..

Also, Living Room, Friday night has karaoke (5th and 23rd or so... entrance on the street not the ave.)

    so...
    these suggestions sound great!
BUT when the crowds are big and drunk, is there much opportunity to actually get the microphone?

Sure they'll get their turn at the mike. But they probably won't remember singing "99 Luft Balloons". So take pictures, lots and lots of pictures.

I think Sunday night at The Chocolate Monkey is Karaoke night. not too crowded - you can probably sing a few times an hour.

The Carriage House event is just like any other... put your name in and you get to sign... they don't care how drunk you are.

If you are on top of shit you could sign 3 - 4 songs an hour.

Carriage House is Saturday nights. It's such a random mix of people--old, young, insane--but that's what makes it great. Butter up the karaoke-ringleader guy and the bartenders and it'll help a bit from getting lost in the shuffle.

    Subject: Karaoke in Bklyn

Check with PJ Hanley's on Court & 4th Place. They do Sat. nights once (maybe twice) a month. Not bad, average selection and rarely crowded. Carriage House (massive selection) has devoted clientele that fill the list for the night very quickly, so a group that doesn't act fast runs the risk of not everyone getting a chance to get to the mike.

So we went to Carriage house last night and...... um... it sucked. We didn't even go more than a few steps in when we looked at the crowd (suits) and the songs that were being sung.

    so. . . i wouldn't recommend it.

    thanks for helping tho.

But the suits and the awful Billy Joel/Phil Collins concotion is what makes it fantastic! Go in there and belt out whatever you want, however you want and shock em'!

Also worthy of checking out for intimacy are upper floors on W. 32nd St. btw. 5th and 6th in the city. You get your own room, can smoke, and they have beer. Also, it is relatively cheap. 3 hours with beer =$70-80 Be careful though, cuz' they won't kick you out. I've left a place at dawn. It felt cinematic and shit, but very wrong at the same time.

I apologize for the lengthy Manhattan thing. I know the last part of what I wrote about isn't in BK.

its cool- we just wanted to stay local. I work with almost an entirely japanese staff, so im pretty familiar with the good karaoke boxes in Manhattan.

Where i'm from, the neighborhood pizza place had the lead singer of Cheap Trick host live band karaoke every month! where is brooklyn's rocknroll charm?

Timboo's on 5th and 15th (I think) has some more of the good ol' blue collar Brooklyn feel to it. A few years back, my friend and I were pretty much shown that we weren't wanted after a few Neil Diamond gems.
