Barber shop for women

Hi,

I'm tired of paying $70 to get my hair cut just because I'm a woman. I've got short hair, nothing fancy, and would like to go to a barber. Have any women out there (or guys have your girlfriends, sisters, moms, etc.) gone to a barber in the Slope that you felt comfortable in and that did a good job? I want a no-nonsense, inexpensive haircutting experience.

Thanks.

I can't offer a barber suggestion, but Salon Bohemia on 7th ave/15th st gives cuts for $40. better than $70, and they always do a fantastic job

if you've got a really basic thing going on, the barber on Fifth Ave near Carroll is fine but not fabulous
(and not surprised when a woman walks in)

I believe Rompal Salon on 6th Avenue and 3rd Street does hair cuts for $35.00

go see ruthie the barber on st. mark's place between 5th and 6th avenues in her little shop. it says "ruthie's" on the window.

she will ask you what you want and patiently do exactly that for much much less than 70 bucks.

she may also qualify as the nicest woman in town.

George's on PPW near Bartel Pritchard charges $20 for the ladeez (I think). men's cuts are $10. They're quick and no nonsense. I've been happier with their cuts than at places where I've spent more.

Still sounds like women are getting screwed. Some men's short haircuts are more complicated and take more time to do than giving a long-haired woman a trim.

This reminds me of the drycleaners that charge women $10 for a "blouse" and men $8 for a "shirt" made out of the same fabric.
