good framers in park slope

hi-
i'm looking for a reasonably priced framers here in the slope. quality is super important (i just received a super nice print and i want it to be done properly... of course). does anyone have any places that they'd recommend?

A bit out of the way - but Yale on 5'th ave near Greenwood Cemetery is an old standby. They are only open business hours, no weekends. but are very good on price.

San Art on 7th Avenue one block south of Flatbush has done well for me.
Huge selection of frames and mats.

NuNu Gallery on Union. They do good work.

Every time i go to have something framed, ive had to wait awhile because theyve been so busy with other patrons!

I've been VERY happy with Sterling Place Framing (formerly Prints Charming) on Sterling Place and 7th Ave.

I just went to the Frame Store on 7th avenue between 11th and 12th in the south slope that I had previously recommended, and was appalled at how rude and arrogant the owner was to me and his workers in front of me. He asked which of his employees had "stole" his pens again in front of me and the other customers in a rude and accusatory manner.

He never even formally greeted or welcomed me into his store, but instead, he (the owner im assuming) just came up behind me and told me not to "further damage" the poster i was obviously bringing in for him to fix and frame.

Not only did he treat me like i was some kind of young, naive idiot because i admitted to never having framed anything big before, but he actually alluded to the fact ahead of time that his frames were "very expensive", as if to say i wouldnt be able to afford them (i wasnt dressed my best because of the rain, and he must of thought i was a student or something which everyone thinks because i look young, when in fact i own my own graphic design company.)

Anyone ever experienced rudeness at this store?

Also, he quoted me $210 to frame a poster with a basic silver frame. That sounded absurd to me.

How unpleasant. I've had a lot of things framed there and lately haven't always been happy with the results. I'm going to try a different place next time. I've never gotten any attitude there, but I don't think I've ever encountered the owner. The people who work there have always been nice to me.

I normally see a young black guy with a cool hairdo there during the day, but this guy definitely seemed like the owner because of the way he was talking down to me and seemed to run the place.

Too bad for them, im going somewhere else for framing now.

Yeah, the black guy is really nice and very helpful with choosing the right frame.

The best place I've found is Park Slope Gallery. They are AWESOME and their prices are unbelieveably reasonable. They restored a 1940s poster for me AND framed it for only $270. Incredible. You have to call ahead and make an appointment.

I had heard things about NuNu before and recently went. I love them. They do really high quality work - and yeah - they may be more expensive, but you can't beat NuNu for doing really beautiful custom work. I highly recommend them.

had an original Caryll Spinney (oscar the grouch and big bird) drawing and they were absolutely amazing at finding just the right frame and just the right board.

i was beyond thrilled with the results and get constant compliments on it.

their work is extremely professional, they're incredibly polite and kind and do fantastic work.

4th st and 5th ave!

I also highly recommend prints charming on 5th ave and 4th st. They did a wonderful job framing a painting for my wife.

I'll also chime in for NuNu. They did a very complicated job for me - 3 very large prints with an image that didn't quite match up (but was meant to). They did a sensitive job of matching up the images and framing in 3 separate frames. 5 years later, it still looks great. For anything big or complicated, it pays to pay more. If you don't, you could be dealing with a frame or matting job that is coming apart in a few years.

another vote for Prints Charming. They did an excellent job w/a very old, fragile piece, and really took a lot of time to help. And, they were nice to my kid.

Another vote here for Prints Charming. The owner, Darryl, had lots of good suggestions for us and was extremely patient with our hemming and hawing when we were selecting a frame for a mirror.

I love the place on 7th between 11th & 12th...have always dealt with the owner and he has never been rude. Work has been terrific.

I haven't needed anything framed in awhile, but I would definitely give Prints Charming a try (I live closer to them).

The only place I would not go is the place on 5th Avenue in the North Slope---sorry can't remember the name. I was in there once and the guy was handling someone's print with his bare hands...at the shop on 7th Avenue they protect the print/picture by using some kind of rag/towel

Seems people either love or hate the place on 7th and 12th. I had something framed there a few weeks ago, and they did a decent job, but I thought the guy working there was a complete arrogant dick. I would actually go out of my way to have that kind of work done again.

I always went to San Art. It was like visiting my old hippie uncle.

i need to bring a poster to get framed today - it's 24"x36" and I would want a 2" mat at least.

anyone have an idea of what this should cost at any of the above mentioned places?

I went into the joint on 7th (btwn 11th and 12th) not too long ago and had a similar experience with the cantankerous gentleman described in earlier posts. He seemed annoyed I had come in, wouldn't listen to what I wanted, implied I couldn't afford the product (I have a very large poster I want framed) and obviously did not want my business. I felt like a high school student who just wandered into DWR inquiring about the groovy chair in the window.

I've had a print and very precious old photographs framed there...the photos were not in great condition and they did a terrific job - owner was not rude at all.

Unfortunately, good framing is expensive...unless you have a very expensive piece of artwork, the framing is usually more expensive than the print.

So I do recommend him, but I've also heard really good things about Prints Charming

no question about it: prints charming is the best.. speedy & reasonably priced.. skilled, tasteful & friendly.

Yale framing on 5th ave next door to Time Warner is excellent and affordable.
