I LIVE ON A BLOCK WHERE 95% OF THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE THERE ARE THE OWNERS. ALL PROFESSIONAL PEOPLE AND A FEW RETIREES. THERE IS ONE FAMILY(OWNERS) WHO FOR THE LAST 15 YEARS HAVE TERRORIZED THE BLOCK. THE POLICE ARE WELL AWARE OF THE DRUGS, GANG ACTIVITY, THE NOISE, THE FIGHTS AND OTHER ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES. THE HOUSE HAS BEEN RAIDED A COUPLE OF TIMES ARREST HAVE BEEN MADE BUT NOTHING SEEMS TO STICK. THE PROBLEM IS THE PARENT IS AN OFFICER. WE CALL THE POLICE WHEN WE SEE ILLEGAL ACTIVITY THEY COME AND THE PARENT COMES RUNNING OUTSIDE WITH THEIR BADGE AND NO ARREST. I AM NOT GOING TO STAND FOR THIS I HAVE HAD ENOUGH. I NEED ADVICE ON WHAT TO DO.KEEP IN MIND THIS FAMILY IS VERY DANGEROUS THEY HAVE BEEN KNOWN IN THE PAST FOR VIOLENCE.

get a videocamera. If there are open violations of the law that can be documented then you can record them and make them known to all the powers that be.

Also, keep a detailed log of all calls to the police, 311, etc. so these can be synched up with the action/lack of action taken by the police.

I PREFER NOT TO DISCLOSE WHICH BLOCK BUT IT IS IN CROWN HEIGHTS NORTH. AS OF TODAY MY FIRST COURSE OF ACTION IS DOCUMENTATION WRITTEN AND VIDEO. I'M GOING TO BE AS UNDERCOVER AS POSSIBLE FOR THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY. I WENT TO THE MEETING LAST NIGHT WITH THE NEW COMMANDING OFFICER OF THE 77th. I WANTED TO APPROACH HIM BUT I DIDN'T KNOW WHO THE NEIGHBOR FRIENDS WERE. THERE WERE A FEW DETECTIVES AND OFFICERS THERE AND I DIDN'T KNOW WHO TO TRUST. THEY MUST KNOW SOMEONE IMPORTANT.

They took a couple collars out of there early this summer. I think the mom, who is a capt. in corrections) was one of the collars. Corrections officers of all ranks are locked up more often then you would think. One was just arrested in the 77 a few weeks ago.

Why would you prefer not to disclose the block? Isn't the point to put pressure on them? Are you worried they are checking this forum and will know who you are?

SOMEONE THEY KNOW MAYBE. I HAVE TO PROTECT MY FAMILY THEY COULD EASILY RETALIATE IF THEY FIND OUT WHAT I'M DOING.

Definitely get as much video evidence as you can, but be careful about it. Maybe hide the camera inside a box on your windowsill, or something like that. I would also suggest recording your calls to 911/311/precinct, using a handheld tape recorder with your handset volume up high so that all voices are heard. Once you have enough evidence you can then think about who you feel safest approaching.

    Good luck.

    Tootsie,

I know you don't want to disclose the location, but can you at least let me know if it's anywhere near Bergen Street bet. B'klyn & NY? A yes or no would suffice, since I will be moving my family there next spring.

Tootsie, you could also click the PM button beneath faithful's post to send a private message and not reveal this info on the board, since you're not comfortable with that. Just a suggestion! :)

Why go on a public forum, if you're not comfortable disclosing details? Especailly after a Headline like "Block Held Hostage". Making allegations of police corruption and the community being terrorized!

    Subject: where on Revere?

They took a couple collars out of there early this summer.
ParadeRest, which house on Revere? I live across the street, and I walk my daughter and dog down that block every day, and most evenings. (She was riveted at one house's light display just tonite). I think I have an rough idea, but I'd like to know for sure.

And on a separate but similar note, what's the deal with the new "Telecommunications #2" storefront around the bend on Bergen & Kingston? (I'm presuming there's a flagship store elsewhere?) Do we really need a blatant dealer supply store? The rest of that building is completely hollowed/burnt out and dilapidated, and suddenly a shop opens up? Seems shady to me.

Another way to remedy that situation down is to start making building dept. complaints, environmental control board, health dept., etc. .... you get the point. If you can't get resolution one way (via police, da, law enforcement) then try the above. It has worked before in a situation regarding a known drug den and crack house.

Seriously if you gave the community affairs for the DA's office a call she will help you. She has done wonders for my problem. Her name is Ms. Adossa 718-250-3370.

    Subject: WATCH YOUR BACK

be careful, just like everyone said tape record, video tape, etc. And if this person is involved in law enforcement and the cops do nothing they may know the person personally. Cops stick together. caus eif they know that the law is being violated in or on her property and they won't do nothing then watch those cops too. Also, if i was you i woul dget a police scanner. they probably have one.

The all caps is very annoying. usually all caps means that you're yelling - please don't yell. We can hear you. I wouldn't go directly to any police officer with this complaint. I was a victim of a crime and while being interviewed I asked who should I speak to regarding certain another type of crime that seemed to be blatant on my block. I confided in an officer making it pretty clear who I believed the guilty party was in the commission of this other crime. A couple of days later, the individual that I fingered threatened me, essentially telling me that I needed to keep my mouth shut. He told me what he coud do, what he would do it with and how he would do it and then proceeded to tell me to have a nice day. When I was interviewed again regarding the initial crime that I was a victim of, the officer who I had initially confided in regarding the other crime looks at me says, "Yeah, you know so-and-so. He's good people. Yeah, he's good people." It was like the officer was daring me to say something else about this guy who had threatened me. To be honest, I just let the whole thing go. It's easy to give advice, but until you've been threatened and know that the individuals who are supposed to protect you are ready to hand you over, you won't know how hard it is to speak up in a lone voice. I say video taping is good, but be careful. Try to get other concerned neighbors to complain with you. It's good to be noble, but damn it's dangerous.
