I live in a medium size aparment building with a super. I want to give him a Xmas gift. Is $50 too cheap? Too much? What do other people give? I have no idea about these kinds of things.

Thanks!

I tip $20 a piece to our two supers. Now I'm wondering if I'm cheap! I don't think most people in my bldg. tip them though, so I think they appreciate it.

We give $50 to our super (1 in the bldg), and anywhere from $60 - $20 to the doormen depending on how long they've been there (whole year or not) and if they open doors for me when I have my stroller. Oh, and how nice they are to my kid too.

When I moved into my building 10 years ago--South Slope; no doorman--I tipped my super $100 every Christmas, for the first few years. If I was broke one particular year, I'd get him a bottle of medium-priced champagne or an equivalent. But since he's been doing a crappy job of late, I haven't tipped him a dime the last couple of years. And he's fairly friendly to me, anyway. So...

I tip my super $100-$125. But he is a great super- can fix almost anything and very responsive. I'll probably tip a little more this year.

I think 50-125 is a good range, depending on the number of supers, the type of building, and the quality of service.

I'm ashamed to admit this...but I've never tipped my super, but then again, since I'm now the landlord and the super, I've never been tipped. Oh wait, my cat brings me a bird once in a while, it's the thought that counts.
