Fashion Cafe-coming soon...

Did anyone else see the sign on the empty storefront that says "Coming Soon: Fashion Cafe" on 7th ave, bewteen 16th and Windsor. I can't say that I'm crazy about that name, but I'm happy that something interesting will be moving into this space. It has been vacant for at least 2 and half years!

Anyone have any more info about it?

is it the same thing as JRG's on flatbush near atlantic? I think (but don't know for sure) that JRG's is toast w/ atlantic yards. but maybe not. I'm still baffled by which buildings will be sacrificed and which will be spared.

    Fashion cafe?

didnt tyra banks and a bunch of other modells open a chain of cafes called that?

should be a nice addition to that end of 7th ave. the park slopeiness keeps creeping south.

Good lord, who thinks of these names? I just hope that Drama Cafe opens a second location next to the Fashion Cafe.

It was Christy Turlington, Elle Macpherson, Claudia Schiffer, and Naomi Campbell.

    Fashion Cafe? In Park slope?

    Are Crocs or Uggs allowed?

    :P

It does seem like a bit of an oxymoron. Perhaps it will be a showcase of Park Slope fashion and they won't let you in if you're not wearing yoga pants and Crocs.

I think Alafairnadia may be right -- I suspect it's the new location of the old JRG Fashion Cafe on Flatbush, which closed due to Ratnerville.

Kind of an odd place, but fun -- they had a fairly limited but good menu of Caribbean/Guyanese food. I had the mango and roasted sorrel salmon once and it was really good. They have fashion shows featuring local designers, hence the name. And the bartenders didn't skimp on the drinks.

Here are a couple of reviews from the old location:

So I passed by the Fashion Cafe last night and it was open. I was almost tempted to go in but I walked by instead-tyring to steal a peek inside. I usually LOVE trying out new places, but something wasn't very alluring about their storefront. I mean, it's called the Fashion CAFE but there was no sign that it was truly a cafe from the window. They have a couple of mannequins in the window and even the clothes they were wearing were not interesting enough to stop me dead in my tracks (like the ones at Bird or Neda-- though hopefully the prices at Fashion Cafe are less!)

Has anyone passed by or felt brave enough to go in? There is a "Free Coffee" sign on the window so that may lure me in. I hope they do well, but the concept in such a small space doesn't seem to work. Hmm. I'd like to give it a chance.

I walked by a week ago and it didn't look like a cafe at all -- it just looked like a clothing store.
