Shooting/Stabbing on St. Marks near Franklin

I'm surprised that this hadn't yet been covered on these boards--there was a shooting and stabbing on or around St. Marks Ave. between Classon and Franklin around 2:30 A.M. on Saturday morning, and since I almost witnessed the incident, I thought I should report it. I was in my bedroom and heard a lot of shouting on St. Marks, which isn't unusual, but it sounded louder than normal. So I looked out my window to see a group of people running down the street and shouting--then I heard two gunshots. The police came in large numbers shortly afterward, followed by two or three ambulances. A number of cops went into a building on St. Marks which I think is a residence, but am not sure.

The next day I was walking down Franklin Ave. to pick up my laundry, saw two cops, and asked them what had happened. They told me there had been a shooting and stabbing, "at a baby shower, of all things." I don't want to sound alarmist about the neighborhood, but y'all should know what went down...and these things seem to have happened with greater frequency in the past few months (though maybe that's just my perception).

Subject: Shooting / Stabbing at the "baby shower"

I did see that there were pastel balloons and everyone leaving seemed to have large white bags and boxes. Rather late for a "Baby Shower" Maybe they were giving out Baby "Powder" there too. The police came canvasing my building Sunday AM.

Oh, and I think it may have been in that place that is a Day Care right near the shuttle tracks. It was an awful lot of people for any residences around here. That is what initally attracted my attention the sound of a large crowd. Sure I often hear groups of 4 or 5 people drunk returning from the bars/clubs, but this was different.

I posted about this in a different thread, btw.

The daycare center would make sense. There were a ton of people around, but I couldn't tell where everyone was coming from, or whether some of them had just been hanging around on the street.

And here I thought it was purely a question of proximity to Manhattan, and the level of immediate amenities. Silly me.

But seriously. Rather sad if it was in the Day Care.. seems somehow just a little more disconcerting.
