Tax preparers in Park Slope? (Other than HR Block)

The thought of getting my taxes done is already starting to keep me up at night. After a not-so-great experience with the H&R Block on Flatbush last year, I'm looking for a new place to go. Any thoughts? I know there's a few independent offices on Seventh Ave. Thanks in advance.

I used to have mine done by a guy on 7th Avenue (between 7th and 8th Streets I think). It's been a few years so I can't quite remember, I want to say his name is Elliott Korb? Anyway, it's the little place closer to the Carriage House. He did a great job with mine so I used him for a few years. Good Luck!

I think ours was somewhere in the $250 range, but we had a lot going on in 2005 (sold condo/bought coop, state taxes in 2 states, moving expenses, etc).

You could also try Harvey Kraus at 1018 8th Avenue (718-788-1972). He's charges around $250, but was well worth it. Plus, there was no shadiness involved. I know several friends who go to other places and their preparers are always talking them into extra exemptions, etc.

Does anyone know what the above mentioned places charge for a basic service-- w2, 1099 and a couple bank statements? Do they give estimates ahead, or is it a surprise after they begin going through your paperwork.

I've been using an accountant in Williamsburg who only charged me $90 last year and did a great job, but would love to stay local is possible.

The guy I used on 7th Ave (I think he's in Towne House Properties at 308 7th Ave) charged me something like $40 for a very simple return. No dependents or special circumstances.

Want to add my two cents for Joe Colacino. We've been using him for years.

I've used Joe for about eight years now, and even though I moved to central Jersey, I still go to him.

Subject: tax preparer in Park Slope

Strangely, the two best tax preparers in Park Slope are a few stores apart. I use Elliott Korb- 308 7th Ave. (off 8th St.). (718) 291-1469. He is less expensive and charges 50 dollars for a simple short form and 125-200 dollars for most long forms. Great for freelancers, but he rarely does it on the spot. Your taxes can be mailed, e-filed or picked up. Hope this helps.
