Actually, I used to live in a very cute full two bedroom in Chelsea (16th and 8th) for $1350. Less than two years ago. They're out there, just hard to find!

(Okay, so my bedroom was nicknamed "the sensory deprivation tank" because it was 6x9 with its one window on a virtually lightless air shaft, but I got a break on rent and the rest of the place was great.)

Katie, I think we have an open apartment in our building...I don't know what you consider a safe neighborhood, some people are a little sketched out by the area, but we like it. (We're in the sometimes-called-Prospect-Heights-but-really-a-couple-of-blocks-into-Crown-Heights area). Two doors down from the train. It's a railroad, though, so not ideal for sharing, but the back bedroom does have a separate door to the hall. And I believe it's $1200.

I sometimes wonder if people who post these things ever come back to check for replies, or expect us to email them the results of our research...

Well if that's the case, that's their own problem.

Oh, yes, that's what I meant; I wasn't suggesting that you email them. Just expressing my feelings about people who never register, ask for help, and never come back...

Oh, I know, I took it as such. Sorry--my tone was directed at the freeloaders, not you.

Geeze! I hope these aren't the people I ran into on the street last night. I recommended that they post on DH.

Now I'm going to have skulk on outta here.

These particular people may be fine. It's a general message-board annoyance, not necessarily specific to this post.

I have a friend who moved into a place on Classon & Prospect... apparently they have converted an old hospital or something and there are tons of newly renovated apartments... they were able to get a decent 1 BR for 1200 (after some negotiation)... so it could be worth looking into.
