I need a car service to pick me up and take me to LGA Friday afternoon. How soon in advance should I call?

Also if you can recommend a good one, I'd appericate it. Thanks.

Not sure where exactly you live, but I'm a big fan of Arecibo on Lincon and 5th ave. 718-783-6465.

They've taken me to the airport before without any advance notice. Nice guys too.

i've always been a fan of the seventh avenue car service 'twenn 7th & 8th streets (they've never let me down yet; been using 'em for years).

pretty sure their number is 718 965 1616

call your car service now and place your reservation. can't hurt.

Eastern (718-499-6227) has cleaner cars than Arecibo (at least in the last year). I'd go with them first.

I like Eastern too. I quit using Continental after the dispatcher was rude to me one too many times (I called to ask where the car was, dispatcher said it had come and gone, I said I'd been standing at my window and no car had come, he started screaming at me that I was lying, then it turned out that he'd sent the car to the wrong address.) :x

Another vote for Eastern I've had better luck with them than both Aracebo and Evelyn. They pick up at the airport to. call them on your cell while you are taxiing in

Totally agree. They seem to have newer cars now, are always on time, and I call them the day before - unless it's a holiday - then I call a few days in advance so that they aren't taking more than one passenger...

I've had terrible luck doing this with both Eastern and Evelyn. Always late when requesting a car for the next day. Better off calling at 7:15 for a 7:30 car than calling the day before.

same here. continental sucks. cars are dirty, the dispatcher (when he answers) is obnoxious. eastern rocks.

and that's exactly why i don't use eastern or evelyn, and use seventh avenue instead

What's the going rate for car services these days to the airport? I'm on 4th & Pacific, if that'll make any difference

I paid $35 to go to JFK. I called the same car service to take me back to PS too, because the car service guys hanging around the airport tried to charge me too much.

I've had bad experiences with Arecibo, although they seem to cost a couple of dollars less than some other car services. I don't use Arecibo anymore.

They don't always pick up the phone, and then when you do get someone on the line they're in such a hurry that they can easily cut you off and hang up before getting all the necessary info about when/where to pick you up. Annoying! Also, the language barrier can be a problem sometimes when you call the dispatcher if you don't speak Spanish. The cars you call only show up about half the time. You can't schedule a ride in advance. Once the car does come, though, the drivers are OK, about the same as drivers for other services.

Eastern costs a bit more, but they will take your address more carefully when you call, and even take your phone number and have the driver call you when they arrive if you request it. For some trips, you can schedule in advance. I use Eastern now. They almost always show up when they say they will.

If it's raining or snowing and you need a car service any where near rush hour, give yourself two hours. Last summer, I called ALL car services in the area at 4:45 PM on a Thursday during a rain storm. It took over ten minutes and multiple calls before a live person picked up. It took an hour for a car to appear. During good weather and non-rush hour times, I have not had any problems with any local car services.

I always just call Eastern about 20 mins before I leave for the airport. I've never had a problem.

Dude! Those guys at JFK are sharks! Oh, and the ones that go to Washington Hts or any other predominantly Hispanic 'hood, load up the car with other passengers, too!

Weekends too if the weather's that bad. It's like a mini-New Year's Eve out there when you're trying to get a car to come pick you up if the weather sucks. I had it happen to me on a Saturday night not too long ago while babysitting an obnoxious, drunken girl I was trying to put in a car service and send home. Ah, good times. :x

PS: I trust the Eastern guys in sending an inebriated girl home alone.
