Do You Find Bagel World Scary???

What does everyone make of Bagel World opening on DeKalb?

I understand they're a chain of stores. The food doesn't look fresh to me. The bagels don't seem to be authentic boiled-and-baked NY bagels. The balloons and the bright lights aren't exactly the Fort Greene vibe.

I absolutely hate the sign. I don't think it fits in too well, on the face of it -- but I haven't yet tried the bagels, and I certainly don't want to say who can and can't join the neighborhood. We'll see if they hold up to Bergen Bagels., though.

I love La Bagel Delight, on Fulton. It's a great store. If you're disillusioned with Bagel World, try La Bagel Delight!

The Bagel World on Court Street was amazing. Haven't been there in a while (watching those pesky carbs, and all) but frankly, I liked them better than La Bagel and Bergan.

I daresay I like the sign--I find it humorous. I haven't tried their bagels yet, but I'm hoping for something like a Murray's bagel--not the big doughy messes at Bergen.

Subject: better than the other option

Just saw this place last night! It is a bit out of place on demure de Kalb, but i think i am going to love it compared to La Bagel Delight on Lafayette which I hate and is run by the most moronic people on Earth. They might be nice people, but NO ONE WANTS TO BE SHOUTED AT WHEN ORDING A BAGEL OR COFFEE.

I go to La Bagel on Lafayette once a weekend and have never once been shouted at. Just sayin'.

I need to be more clear. The normal speaking volume by the staff here is mega loud. I realize some people are comfortable with this but it ruins a weekend bagel trip for me when I just want a coffee and a bagel. I am not shy, but I didn't grow up in Italian-Brooklyn-Catholic culture. It is too bad cuase they have great food and they don't realize they are scaring people away with the shouting. I have discussed with many people- there is super chaos when trying to order here- frustrating. My last sandwhich was warm pastrami on everything bagel with swiss. Amazing.

I stopped at BW on the way to work this morning. The employees were very pleasant, but I wasn't wild about the main attraction. I had a toasted everything with cream cheese, and the bagel was too bready and insufficiently chewy, both inside and on the crust, for my tastes. Plus, the "everything" topping was saltier than I would have liked. Nonetheless, they seem to have some good breakfast deals- I think you can walk out of there with a bacon/egg/cheese bagel for under $3. I'd probably go back for a bagel sandwich, but when the emphasis is on the bagel, I'll stick to Bergen.

    Subject: Bagel World is everywhere!

I was told by the owner's mother the other day that Bagel World owns Bagel World on Carrol Street and Bergen Bagels. That the owner isn't a resident of Fort Greene, rather he lives in Bay Ridge. That must be why on demure Dekalb Ave. we have this glaring sign of gentrification or homogenation? Why not open one in his neigborhood while he's at it?
Looking closely at the quality of the product and life BW brings to FG i am not impressed nor happy that it is here. PS If i want an egg and bacon sandwich i can go to the friggin Fort Green Market.

    What's "Italian-Brooklyn-Catholic" about talking loudly?

The bagels are bready cause they take short cuts, like steaming them.

we just went to bagel world recently

now i have to say that i thought i had a very good toasted everything bagel wtih cream cheese. yes, it's salty but not as salty as bergen's on myrtle. and i thought it was crunchy on the outs and chewy on the inside while bergen is more...tough overall.

la bagel delite ranks low on my scale - i ordered an everything and it was barely topped.

regardless, it's nice that people have choices now and can choose the place they like best. maybe the competition will also force places to be more pleasant and offer better services.

My review on Bagel World? It's a little weird.

    1. They apparently decided it was time to open...and just stopped painting before it was done.

    2. the menu boards for Boar's Head sandwiches list 20+ sandwiches (by number) and they're not in order.

    3. There's a step up from the sidewalk....and then a ramp at the door. If you need the ramp, you won't be able to get to it.

    4. The everything bagel with lox, etc, was HUGE and stuffed full. (That's a good thing).

    5. Yes, the signs are hideous.

Went to Bagel World today for the first time. Yes - signs are terrible but the people are really nice and organized.
I second the comment about La Bagel Delite - why do they have to yell all the time..."Next...anyone NEXT"...err but noone has walked in since you last screamed that sir...
Also, you have to tell someone your order then they repeat it back totally wrong, then you correct them, then another person comes over to ask the person who took your order what you wanted and the whole process goes around again...their m.o. in Park Slope is the same, I think that they think it lends Moonstruck brooklyn charm to the process.
I can't order in there anymore, I make my wife do it for me as she appears to have mastered the process

Re: La Bagel on Lafayette. It would be easy to stop there every day on my morning commute but it's ridiculously expensive. One $6.50 bagel, cream cheese and iced coffee was enough for me.

What kind of bagel did you order? I go there regularly and have never paid that much! Usually my husband and I get two bagels with cream cheese and two large coffees and I think it's under $5 unless you get lox cream cheese.

Bagels at La Bagel Delight suck. They aren't bagels but merely rolls with holes. Bagel world isn't any better. Bergen is the best of the three.

    Subject: Bagel World

Went to Bagel World for the first time yesterday. I ordered a turkey sandwich. The sandwich sucked - I had no idea, a turkey sandwich could taste so bad. Jeepers
