Open Basketball? Why is it so hard to find?

I quit smoking and in order to retain my sanity I need to run around and be competitive. I'm looking for a basketball game to play in--either open or for a team, free or for a charge.

I am almost thirty, 6'4, and have some game--so I'm not looking to run against teenagers.

Please let me know what is out there... I am already playing in a game on Weds nights, but am looking for a run any other day. I am also interested in knowing the location of any outdoor hoops that draw likeminded individuals to play... as I haven't seen any in prospect park (why????) and I find it ridiculous to have to travel to Manhattan to find a game.

I've got a similar situation in fact. Six feet with decent game, trying to shed 10 lbs and get a good run in - NOT with teenagers. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm in. In fact, I've just now created a gmail address for anyone to go to if they want in. [email hidden]
Maybe someone teaches at a local school and can get in to use the gym or somehting. I'll check the mail every day or so, or whenever I get really bored at work.

If you guys get a game going, I'd be in.

There's a court at the end of my block that's free a lot. Especially before the summer bball camps kick in.

    I suggest looking into "meetup.com"

I've used it for soccer, I'm assuming they have basketball too.
