77th Precinct Community Meeting on 9/12

After August's precinct meeting was cancelled, I used the NYC.gov complaint form to ask what was going on.

I recently got a reply (which appears to be an actual, hand-signed letter) saying that the August meeting had been cancelled at the request of the community (wha?) and that the next meeting would be on September 12. Same bat time, same bat place.

The meeting conflicts with our coop board meeting, which my husband is required to attend, so I would only be interested in going if I could meet up with others to take the bus or walk.

Subject: more police

so, is the place with all the police cars on the corner where park meets grand & washington just a police station?

that is a sex crimes unit and it's only open part time

I really want to attend this meeting but have a dentist appointment right before hand. I think I can make it back by 7:30 maybe 7:45 and would be willing to drive people there if they want to wait. I can fit 3 in my car comfortably and 4 if we squeeze.

I'd like to attend but then I'd be on the CIA watch list if I'm not already.

I can't make it. will be flying back from Minneapolis. I'm sure I won't be brain dead.

I wouldn't worry about showing up late. Most of the chat-chat bitch and moan about those damn kids session starts later.

I plan to. I've been to them before. It's a great way to see real interaction between the precinct and the nabe.

I went to the meeting. From what I could tell from DH happy hours etc.., it looks like I was the only DH person there.

Like I said before, if you don't show up - shut up. If you can't make time for stuff like this you have no right to bitch and moan.

As for the meeting itself, It came across as an infomercial (in the round) for BUILD. When DI O'Connell asked the crowd for their concerns I heard BUPKUS about Prospect Heights. I spoke with Det. Rivera about some "unlicensed pharmacists" working in the area.

I'll keep the board posted about the next meeting.

Or once-a-year co-op board meetings in danger of not meeting their quorums. But then I've always felt, perhaps wrongly, that some of the concern about crime on this board is simply a factor of crime being discussed; I'm sure other neighborhoods I've lived in have had similar incidents that I just didn't hear about. For what it's worth.
