Open Mic Comedy/Music/anything

Does anyone have any insights as to a good open mic comedy night in the area? I know that there's one at The Chocolate Monkey. Has anyone ever been there? I did standup a lot when I lived in DC, and I even got to perform at the DC Improv and open for Dave Chappelle and Lewis Black. I'd love to get back into it in New York, especially if it was somewhere within walking distance, but I can't exactly draw a crowd yet.

Furthermore, how about open mic singer/songwriter/weenie with a guitar places? I'm sure there are hundreds in Park Slope, but does anyone know any fun/relaxed ones? My songwriting is in part an extension of my comedy, so I'm not looking for a crowd full of whiny hipsters... although, maybe that's just the audience I'm looking to alienate...

Christ, I'll even do open mic poetry if there's a good one where people won't be too offended if I read my terrible poetry, which is, naturally, also an extension of the comedy thing...

Does anyone know of anything? I guess all I'm looking for is a microphone and a bar full of drunk people.

Here's a thread about a place that the poster is touting. There's also a link to the website. On the website, there's a Comedy Night noted on the left side of the home page... Can't vouch for the place, but it is close!

Pat O'Shea runs a twice-monthly Comedy Night at Freddy's (http://www.freddysbackroom.com). He'll likely need to see you (or a tape) once before putting you on, but the people he gets are really good--Comedy Central/Conan O'Brien/The Onion/etc.

Let us know when you're going to perform!
